Overview
This feature lets you automatically fill up the remaining target time of a day with a paid absence. For example, if an employee falls ill during a working day, work and project times have often already been recorded for that day. With the remuneration setting Fill up to daily normal working time, you book a full-day paid absence for that day, e.g. "Sick during the day", without removing the times already recorded. timr only credits as much paid time as is still missing to reach the target time for that day. This keeps the actual working time intact, while the sick-related absence is still fully recorded in timr.

1. Setting up the working time type "Sick during the day"
The following steps use the working time type "Sick during the day" as an example.
Note: The setting Fill up to daily normal working time is available for working time types in the category Paid absence with the unit Day. It is not offered for the units Minutes and Half day.
Step 1: Go to Administration → Working time types.
Step 2: Click Add working time type. To adjust an existing working time type, click the edit button to the left of the working time type instead and select Edit working time type.
Step 3: Configure the working time type as follows:
Marker 1: Select Paid Time Off as the Category.
Marker 2: Enter a Name (e.g. "Sick during the day") and, if you use it, a Short name.
Marker 3: Select Day as the Unit.
Marker 4: Specify whether employees can record the working time type themselves, whether it is entered by admins or team leaders, or whether it must be requested.
Marker 5: Under Compensation, set Fill up to daily normal working time to Yes.
Marker 6: Click Save.
Note: The category of an existing working time type cannot be changed. The setting Fill up to daily normal working time can therefore only be enabled for working time types that already belong to the category Paid absence, or for a newly created working time type.
2. Booking
This working time type – in our case "Sick during the day" – is booked like any other full-day absence, in addition to the times already recorded for that day.
2.1 Booking by employees
Step 1: Go to Recording → Working time.
Step 2: Click + Vacation & Absence.
Step 3: Select the working time type Sick during the day.
Step 4: Select the relevant day.
Step 5: Click Save.
The work and project times already recorded for that day remain unchanged.
If a request is required for the working time type, employees submit the absence via the request function. Once approved, the remuneration is calculated in the same way.
2.2 Booking by administrators
Step 1: Go to Reports → Working time.
Step 2: Click + Vacation & Absence.
Step 3: Select the employee and the working time type Sick during the day.
Step 4: Select the relevant day.
Step 5: Click Save.
3. Calculating the paid time
With the setting Fill up to daily normal working time: Yes, timr calculates the paid time of the absence as follows:
Paid time = daily target time − times already booked for the day
For comparison: A full-day paid absence without this setting is credited with the full daily target time – regardless of which times have already been booked for that day.
Example:
An employee has a daily target time of 8 hours. She works 2 hours in the office and then books 1 hour for a doctor's appointment. The doctor puts her on sick leave. "Sick during the day" is booked for the rest of the day.
Target time: 8 h
Office time: 2 h
Doctor's appointment: 1 h
Sick during the day: When the full-day booking is entered, the target time is automatically filled up with the missing 5 h. The day is balanced, and the time account shows neither a plus nor a minus.
4. Frequently asked questions
What happens if the full target time has already been booked for the day?
If no time is missing to reach the daily target time, no additional paid time is credited for the absence. The absence is still booked and documented for the day.
Do I have to delete work or project times already recorded before booking "Sick during the day"?
No. The work and project times already booked are kept. timr only adds the time missing to reach the daily target time.
Can I also use the setting for the working time type "Sick leave"?
Yes. The setting is available for all working time types in the category Paid absence with the unit Day. Whether you create a separate working time type "Sick during the day" or enable the setting for "Sick leave" depends on how you want to distinguish between the two cases in reports. Please also check the legal requirements that apply to you.
What else is the setting suitable for besides illness?
For any paid absence that starts on a day on which times have already been recorded and is intended to cover the rest of the day.
How does this differ from a working time type "Sick during the day" in the unit Minutes?
With the unit Minutes, you record the exact duration of the absence manually. With the unit Day and the setting Fill up to daily normal working time: Yes, you book a full day, and timr calculates the missing time automatically.
